A Chilly Start, Chopstick Firsts, and Conquering Cambridge
The morning greeted us with a true “Czech-style” chill – kosa, as they say. Despite the heating running all night, the place still felt like someone had left the door to Siberia open. But no big deal! A light breakfast and our favourite video tour guide who made it in an hour or so led our steps around Cambridge. Spoiler alert: that “short” tour lasted all day.
Cambridge: Free, Fun, and Full of Bridges
Our first victory? Not paying a single penny for entry anywhere. Who says you need to break the bank to enjoy Cambridge?
With the river Cam flowing gracefully and plenty of bridges to cross, we quickly realized the obvious – Cam + bridge = Cambridge! It felt like solving a puzzle we didn’t know we were playing. By the end of the day, we’d walked over so many bridges that we officially consider ourselves experts in “bridging the Cam.”
Fun fact: Did you know Cambridge wasn’t always a City? It only recently earned that title, but there’s a fascinating backstory behind why it almost didn’t qualify. If you think you know the reason, drop it in the comments – we’d love to see your guesses!
Chopstick Chronicles
Lunch took us to Itsu and it was a memorable milestone – not just for the delicious box of rice with chicken, veggies, sesame dip, and a zingy lime wedge, but because I tackled it with chopsticks for the very first time. Let’s just say it was more of a workout for my fingers than I expected, but by the end, I was almost a pro... or at least managed not to drop the chicken!
Dinner, on the other hand, was a no-fuss affair with our favourite noodles in a cup.
Our morning video wasn’t just inspiration – it became our guide for the day. We had every intention of sticking to its route, but we couldn’t resist stopping every few minutes to explore interesting little streets, charming bookshops, and quirky sights along the way. What started as a simple plan turned into nearly eight hours of walking and over 19 kilometers covered. By the end, we felt like we’d uncovered every hidden gem Cambridge had to offer!
Stay tuned for more updates.
